DETAILS UPDATES STATUS OF VIDVAN.COM
This is a brief account of the current activities in implementing our plans for the various constituents of the web site. These will be implemented on a continuing basis and the time scale will reflect the volunteer driven status!
THYAGABRAHMAM: A brief personal descriptive account of the Annual Thiruvaiyaru Thyagaraja Aradhana Festival will be given along with pictures of the Pooja and other activities undertaken by the Thillaisthanam Tradition at the festival. An appeal which describes these along with a concrete way to help sustain this great tradition is part of this section.
SIVAN: A personal introductory article leads to Late Rangaramanuja Iyengars's moving, memorable tribute and assessment of Sivan's life and contributions. A picture Gallery and excerpts of Sivan's compositions rendered by Yesteryear Maestros in live concerts complement the article. Suggestions for further study and activities for propagating Sivan's works are provided through links to other sources.
MADURAI MANI: In addition to current contents renderings of various Mani Iyer's unique specialities referred to in Dr.V.K.Balasubrahmanyan's article will be presented as well as various live concerts one at a time periodically.
PALANI: A personal note along with biographical details supplemented by pictures will be followed by an Expert Article by Sri K.S.Kalidas (Diciple of Late Palani Subramania Pillai) available in his voice also! Some of his Thani Avarthanams will be presented and in due course there will be expert commentary by Sri .K.S.Kalidas on how to listen to them and the Innovations introduced by the Great Palani.
S.RAJAM: Part two of his 1982 Denver concert along with a Portrait Gallery of Major Composers of South Indian (Carnatic) Music will be the additions.
T.S.PARTHASARATHY: An account of the contributions of this Doyen among Musicologists (well known author of Thyagaraja Kritis-annotated with translation- ,critic and Power behind Madras Music Academy) will be given.
BALAGHANDARVA: This site not only acknowledges the Legendary Status and Divine Voice of the famed Maharastrian Actor(on Marathi Stage) Balaghandarva(so named by none other than Lokhamanya Tilak, one of the Early Pillars in Fight For The Independence Of India) with various 78rpm recordings of his but examines the PROFOUND influence and contributions of Maharashtra and Marathi stage ,traditions, and music on various aspects of Carnatic Music and the indebtedness owed them. S.Rajam describes the excitement and unique capabilities of Late Balaghandarva.
KOTEESWARA IYER: With genuine modesty he used the MUDRA-signature- of: Kavi Kunjara Bharathy in his immortal compositions on Murugan in Tamil. They were composed in all the Seventy two Mela Kartha Ragas (itself a stupendous feat in itself!) with the names of the ragas themselves appropriately(musically and composition wise) appearing in them(like Dhikshitar's Kritis). The only person probably who is capable of rendering all of them,S.Rajam not only renders them but provides commentary and Notation for them with more notes by his diciple B.K.Sankaranarayanan. These will appear one at a time.Periodically we present live excerpts from yesteryear maestros also starting with a brilliant rendering by Late Madurai Mani Iyer (who uniquely brings out the greatness of any composition and composer he dealt with).
SHEIKH: We will be presenting more excerpts from Sheikh's live concerts during USA-CANADA Tour. S.Kasim (wellknown Nadaswara Vidvan) will be writing various articles about Nadaswaram in its various aspects.
FLUTE MALI: We intend presenting full live concert recordings.Hopefully an authoritative article on Mali will also appear soon!
